Swaps

2015-06-01 20.28.51-1We are on our way to summer.  The end of May was almost all dark brown (upper 80s) with a few pink stripes (lower 90s)!  I love the brown and pink together!

Here is a close up of May (between the white stripes).  You can see it just getting hotter and hotter.  I expect next month will introduce the next color (red)!

I also got my Reducio Swap package!  The theme was the TriWizard Tournament!  The outside of my package was so cute!

The inside was even better!

There was a cute little Ravenclaw mini sock, a golden egg (which Millie has claimed and plays with), gillyweed (both as a cloth/doily and in a little vial), a copy of the maze (with 4 champions marked), some tea to keep me warm after a trip into the lake, and 4 mini skeins of handspun yarn for my sock yarn blanket!  So lovely!  I love the Reducio swaps. They are so much fun!

My poor sock yarn blankie got neglected for a few weeks.  I was focused on Zack’s birthday stuff, so I put it aside. Now that that is done, I have picked it back up. It is the perfect instant gratification project combined with mindless knitting.  Since I still haven’t been able to focus much this week, it has been my meditation knitting.  I managed to do three blocks (bringing the total to 111 blocks).

The block on the left is the first block.  It is ShiBui Sock in the Zinnia colorway.  This yarn has been discontinued. It is one of my “time capsule” blocks. I got the yarn in a Blankie Mania swap many years ago. I love the colorway. It is very spring and floral!  The second block is on the right. It is purples, pinks, greys, and a touch of black.  It is Panda by StitchJones in the Umeda colorway.  I believe that this was a hand dye, but I can find no shop or anything on Ravelry.  I got this yarn in the same swap.

The last little block is the pretty blue, purple, yellow, and red block. This is Plymouth Happy Feet in color 7.  The color is so pretty!  I got this in the same swap that I got the others.  These three little blocks have been great therapy for me this past week!

Well, given the week I had, it is probably not a surprise that I didn’t complete any blocks last week. I did complete a swap for mini skeins for wee little blocks!  I posted a picture of the mini skeins that I sent last week for the Yarngasm mini swap.  I got my package from my swap partner!

My package was so full of goodies!  I got some chocolate squares.  I sent identical squares to my pal, so I laughed out loud when I saw that!  She should enjoy what I sent since it what she also sent!  There is also some tea. The Candy Cane Lane tea is some of my favorite!

Of course, she also sent some really lovely yarn!  One of the little skeins (the blue that is almost at the end) is her own handspun! She says it may not be fingering weight, but I am going to add it to my blankie anyway!  I love it.  The yarns are lovely and fun. I hope she enjoys what I sent as much as I enjoy what she sent. I should have some new blocks next week now that I have replenished my supply with some yarns I am really excited about!

I used to have a kitchen scale that I used for weighing yarn. It broke a year ago, and I hadn’t replaced it. I decided my kitchen scale was just not good enough. So, I got a new scale. It is the one from KnitPicks.

It arrived just in time! I am doing a trade with another person on the Yarngasm Podcast Group on Ravelry. I was able to make some little mini skeins! They are all ready to mail out! Trading is so much fun!

Some of the progress on my blankie is progress you can’t see.  I spent time this week winding little mini skeins into tiny center pull balls. I had a bunch of mini skeins from a swap back in 2009 or 2010 (a long time ago either way). I hadn’t wound them.  Now that I have been working through my jar that contains the balls ready to be knit into wee blocks, I decided it looked too empty.  So, I wound a bunch. The problem is that I love them all and can never decide what should go in the jar and what should go in the project bag to be knit with next!  I keep around 10 little balls in the bag and reach in blindly to pull a new one. Then I decide where it will look best on the row that I am working on.  Next week, I am going to try to get pictures of all the storage for my mini skeins and balls for the sock yarn blankie. Until then, I did finish two blocks this week.

I don’t know any of the information on either of these yarns. I got them in a trade a long time ago.  Block 1 is purple and red and green and blue. It is so lovely.  I tried a number of times to get a picture that picked up all of the colors, but it was impossible. The color changes were super short and blended together in places.  It made for a really fun yarn to knit.  It is beautiful, but in person it is even more so.

Block 2 is blues and greens and pinks and purples.  It reminds me a bit of the Winterberry colorway on the cotton yarn that my mother-in-law really loves.  Again, I could not get my camera to pick the yarn color up.  I was taking these photos at night using my Ott light, but the color changes are so subtle.

My block total is up to 108. Since the last week was spent mostly on the ripple blankie or winding yarn, I should have more to show next week!

The other day I was scrolling through Etsy, and a few items fell into my cart (as so often happens)! I saw the cutest little gnome stitch marker in the Vintage Rose Shop that I decided I really needed.

image

I mean, he is just so cute! He was clearly made for me. I didn’t want to pay more in shipping than I had payed for that little cutie, so I scrolled a bit more. I found the cutest little Tardis. Perfect for a swap partner (if I don’t keep it, but it probably will go to my partner….probably).

These stitch markers were adorable! I have a few others on my wish list too! The shipping was fast. I can’t wait to add my little gnome to a project!!

I haven’t done as much on my sock yarn blankie this week. I started really working more on my ripple blankie instead since it is so close to bring done. One evening, I not wound little skeins into little center pull balls, so I am considering that progress! I did add two blocks this week, bringing the total to 107.

The first block is a mustard colored should block. The yarn is from Liisu Yarns in the mustard color way. It is their Leili base which is 75% superwash and 25% mohair. This yarn is fuzzy, but it is hard to see in the picture. This yarn is discontinued. I got it in a Blankie Mania swap a long time ago! This is another time capsule yarn!

The second block was one of the new mini skeins from Mint Rain. The yarn is Katie’s Creations sock yarn. I believe the color way is Jayne. It is 75% superwash merino and 25% nylon. Despite being a pretty standard fiber content, this yarn was surprisingly soft. I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to knit with more of her yarn!
