Yes, I have joined another swap (actually, several…more on that later)! Anyway, here is the questionnaire for the Secret Pal 12 Swap:

1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like? I like most yarns. I tend to say my favorite is whatever I am knitting at the moment! I don’t like working with fibers that are mostly acrylic.

2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in? Most of my needles are in a dresser drawer in my office (it is small and flat…They all lay nicely together in size order). I keep my sock needles in the original packaging in a drawer in my living room (next to my favorite knitting spot). I keep my crochet hooks in a case in the knitting needle drawer in my office, except for the hooks that are the same size as my sock needles. I keep those with the sock needles they match.

3. How long have you been knitting & how did you learn? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced? I have been knitting for almost 9 years. I only recently moved past blankets and dishcloths. I consider myself to be in the intermediate range (although maybe adventurous beginner is more accurate).

4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list? Nope

5. What’s your favorite scent? Lavender

6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy? I have a sweet tooth. I love chocolate, but am nursing a baby allergic to dairy. Finding dairy free chocolate is difficult (although Newman’s Own makes a yummy Sweet Dark chocolate). Mostly I eat Good n’ Plenty now.

7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin? I also scrapbook (mostly digital). I am a beginning dyer. I haven’t learned to spin. I am trying to resist, but have recently been considering a drop spindle. I know it is a gateway drug, but I keep telling myself it won’t make me a “spinner”.

8. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD) I mostly listen to toddler tunes, but they aren’t my favorite. When I get to choose my own music, I listen to Broadway showtunes. I can play mp3s.

9. What’s your favorite color(s)? Any colors you just can’t stand? My favorite colors are purples, blues, and greens. I don’t hate any color. My least favorites are yellows and oranges, but if done well…I do like them. As is evidenced by some recent yarn purchases and my first monkey socks. I am fascinated by oranges in both of those.

10. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets? I am married and have two small boys (which means I have two small boys and one really big one). My boys (the little ones) are three years old and 8 months old (the littlest turns one the end of September). We have two dogs (mostly outside) and two cats (inside).

11. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos? Not really. I live in a pretty warm climate.

12. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit? Socks and anything tiny. I have a new obsession with little things (mini-socks and little blocks for my sock yarn blanket).

13. What are you knitting right now? Socks for me, socks for DH, and my sock yarn blanket. Next in my to do list is a dress and some booties for a friend’s baby, and more socks…many more socks.

14. Do you like to receive handmade gifts? Yes, I love handmade things!

15. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Bamboo, aluminum, plastic? I prefer DPNs, but I feel that straights and circs have their places. I generally prefer very slick and pointy needles (KnitPicks nickel plated are my favorites) for socks, but for larger sized needles I like bamboo. I just don’t like much flex to my needles.

16. Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift? Yes!

17. How old is your oldest UFO? Started in April. I tend to be pretty project monogamous.

18. What is your favorite holiday? Christmas!!

19. Is there anything that you collect? Does yarn count? How about sock yarn scraps?

20. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have? I am always up for trying something new. My “dying to try” list is pretty much dictated by what ad has appeared on the bottom of the page I am currently reading on Ravelry. It changes on a minute by minute basis. I don’t subscribe to any knitting magazines at this time. I think ads in those could be very dangerous!

21. Are there any new techniques you’d like to learn? I keep saying that I am going to learn magic loop, but anytime I am ready to cast on a new sock I reach for my dpns. I just love them. Maybe toe up socks will be the next thing.

22. Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements? I am a sock knitter! Heel to toe 9”, 11” at bottom of calf muscle, 9” around ankle and widest part of foot, heel flaps are usually 2 ¼” long, bottom of calf muscle to floor is 6 ½”. Those are the measurements I use. If you need others, let me know!

23. When is your birthday? March 12.

24. Are you on Ravelry? If so, what’s your ID? Yes, I am KnittingGnome.
